Bosnia and Herzegovina will not become the final destination for migrants, said Security Minister Dragan Mektic, urging the European Union to find a solution to the ongoing migrant crisis.

Speaking at a ministerial conference in Salzburg on Thursday, Mektic warned that the situation concerning migrants in Bosnia is constantly complicating especially in the local communities with migrant centres.

“This is why I call for urgent and synchronised action of all crucial actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the European Union and other international organisations. All our institutions have been working for long under very difficult circumstances, under strong pressure and with insufficient human, logistic and financial resources,” Mektic told the participants.

The action is necessary in order to stop illegal migrations which, according to the minister, “turned into human trafficking and has become more profitable than drug trafficking.”

“Also, we will not allow that Bosnia and Herzegovina becomes the final destination for migrants,” he added.

According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Security, Mektic's presence in the conference sparked the strong interest of media especially in regard to the migrant crisis and security in the region.
