Bosnia's total trade volume in 2019 stood at 31,746,327,000 marks (some €16 billion), of which exports amounted to 11,869,563,000 marks (some €6 billion) and imports to 19,876,764,000 arks (approx. €8 billion), the Foreign Trade Chamber said on Tuesday.

The annual three percent drop in export and 1.5 percent imports increase resulted in the 4.5 export-import coverage, which let to the deficit rise to nine percent. The total deficit value in 2019 amounted to eight billion marks (some €4 billion).

Imports grew slightly, by some 280 million marks (nearly €140 million) and the reason for this was the economic activity in the country – meaning the increased local spending and the variation in the price of oil and oil-derivates in the past.

The country achieved a good export-import coverage with Germany and Italy, while it even made a positive balance with Austria.
Bosnia participated in foreign trade with the EU with 72.1 percent of exports and 68 percent of imports. Thus, goods worth 8.554.657.000 marks (approx. €4.2 billion) were exported to the EU market, while the imports amounted to 13.520.320.000 marks (some €7 billion).

The country's most significant trade partner from the EU was Croatia in 2019, the trade with which amounted to 4.97 billion (some €2.5 billion). The exports here amounted to 1.45 billion (some €700 million) and imports to 3.51 billion (nearly €1.5 billion)
The export-import ratio fell to 41 percent (minus four percent from last year).

After the EU, Bosnia participates in foreign trade with the CEFTA region with 17.4 percent of exports and 15.4 percent of imports. Its most important foreign trade partner from the CEFTA region was Serbia.
