The Sarajevo City Council has decided on Wednesday to declare Bosnia’s former international administrator, German politician Christian Schwarz-Schilling, an "Honorary Citizen of the City of Sarajevo" for his ongoing fight for the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1993.

The Council stated that Schwarz-Schilling fought for military intervention and for Germany’s engagement in NATO activities on the territory of former Yugoslavia, as well as for lifting the “unjust arms embargo imposed on Bosnia.”

Schwarz-Schilling organised protests and humanitarian activities for Bosnia and would visit Sarajevo during the war, seeking a way to liberate the city from the occupation. He “spread the truth about the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in personal conversations with the world’s top politicians in Europe and the US.”

Schwarz-Schilling was the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, tasked with overseeing the civilian implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement, between 2006 and 2007.
