Once again, Sarajevo expressed its solidarity with the rest of the world by illuminating one of its most famous landmarks, the City Hall, in red and yellow, the colours of the Spanish flag, along with the Spanish coat of arms.

“With this act, we want to send a strong message of compassion and solidarity with the people and Government of friendly Spain, who are fighting a difficult battle with the biggest plague of today,” said Sarajevo Mayor Abdullah Skaka, on Wednesday evening.

Spain and Bosnia, he said, have a special relationship. Our traditional friendship and affection were confirmed by the establishment of partnership and twinning relations between Sarajevo and the Spanish cities of Madrid and Barcelona.

The City of Sarajevo will never forget Spain's humane missions and close partnership. Spain stood with us in our most difficult times – not only during the siege of our city, but they remained a loyal friend to us, the Sarajevo City Administration said.

“I believe that with the strength of spirit, the already proven solidarity and all available resources, we'll be able to find the strength to win and make the friendship between our cities stronger than ever before,” Mayor Skaka said.
