With little creativity, Bosnian junior swimming champion Iman Avdic (13) found a way to exercise swimming during the pandemic.
Iman and her father Evelin who is also her trainer, have found a way to train.
In her grandfather's greenhouse, Iman and her father places a 3x2m pool in which she swims with a rope tied around her waist to simulate drag. She practices this way every day.
“In a way, this is quite strange for me, but we're able to do all the exercise as before, only in a slightly different way,” Iman said.
The 13-year-old is a record-holder in 50m and 1,500m freestyle, 100m, 200m, and 400m mixed swimming as well as 200m butterfly, back and breaststroke.
“In this period, we do the training in any way we can. We started with dry training first, we did it daily. Since we lived in Sarajevo, we climbed mount Bjelasnica. After that, we came up with the idea that we could try to swim in place, to maintain the sense for water and we were able to do so with this little invention of ours,” Elvedin told Reuters.
Iman enjoys this type of training.
“My trainer has the same training regime as before, but instead of measuring the distance, now we measure time,” Iman said.
Of course, they both say that this type of training is only temporary and they hope they will be able to get back to the real pool and start competing soon.
The Junior state Champion is a member of the Sarajevo Sport Time team.
