The EU remains committed to Bosnia's accession path and strengthening the relations with the rest of the region, Charles Michel, the President of the European Council told Sefik Dzaferovic, the Bosniak member of the country's tripartite presidency in a telephone call, on Wednesday.

The EU is committed to strengthening the relations with the Western Balkan region, which is one of the key priorities of his mandate, Michel said, reaffirming the Union's commitment to the EU accession path of Bosnia and other Western Balkan countries.

Presidency Chairman Dzaferovic familiarised President Michel with the steps taken by Bosnian institutions on speeding up the EU accession process and fulfilling the recommendations from the European Commission's Opinion.

He expressed his expectations that Bosnia will receive the candidate status as soon as possible in order to start accession talks with the EU.

Chairman Dzaferovic informed Michel of Bosnia's participation at the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Zagreb, where the country will join the EU Declaration.

In the end, he thanked the EU for the financial aid it provided to Bosnia in overcoming the health and economic crisis produced by the Covid-19 pandemic, and for adding Bosnia into the EU public procurement system, stressing that this was the most significant form of help the country received.
