There are no outstanding issues and relations are very good between Bosnia’s Islamic Community and the city of Banja Luka, the administrative centre of Bosnia’s Serb-majority entity, Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic and mayor Igor Radojicic concluded at a meeting on Thursday.

Kavazovic said he was satisfied with his visit to Banja Luka and the state of the Islamic Comunity there, adding that he discussed various topics with Radojicic.

“We agreed that the relations in Banja Luka regarding the city and the Islamic Community are very good and improving further. We have renovated nearly all mosques in the city, only the Arnaudia mosque is left, we have started a madrasa, we have no difficult or controversial issues regarding property and we hope it will remain this way,” the head of Bosnia’s IC said.

Radojicic said that the priority is that people can lead normal lives and that all religious communities have normal conditions to work and develop. He also noted that all religious facilities were renovated, excluding the Arnaudia which is currently in the process of reconstruction.

“The city authorities have initiated it, and together with the Republic of Turkey and the Banja Luka Mufti's Office we are in the process of renovating the clock tower, which is practically part of the complex with the Ferhat Pasha Mosque,” he said, expressing hope that the process will be completed soon “as this is part of the historical treasure of the city of Banja Luka.”

“We are also talking about some other buildings that represent traditional architecture in our area to see how we can jointly restore them,” he said.
