A third-grade pupil, Stasa Miljic, will for the next week symbolically run the city of Banja Luka, Bosnia's second-largest, after Mayor Igor Radojicic handed her over 'the city keys' marking the start of the upcoming Children's Week.

“This event is a nice custom when one of our children takes over the city keys for a week and symbolically runs Banja Luka,” said the mayor.

This is an opportunity to remind ourselves of everything that the domestic and international regulations concerning the rights of children say, he added.

The ‘new’ mayor said on this occasion that the children are entitled to the right to life, a happy childhood and education. Her classmates added it was their duty to “go to school regularly, obey their parents and teachers, and to behave in a nice manner.”

The Children's Week, lasting from October 9, is marked across Europe and is aimed to promote the goals of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, said the City Administration.
