The Association “Think Pink – Together we are one” performed 1,118 free mammography exams throughout the country as part of the “Health Days,” by visiting 20 Bosnian cities with their mobile mammogram, the Association said Monday.

Breast cancer was detected in two women, and changes in the breast were observed in 47 women, the Association said, adding that these women were referred for additional examinations in order to establish the diagnosis or eliminate the suspicion of breast cancer.

In the second phase of the Health Days, which will be organized by the end of this year, at least another 400 free mammograms will be performed in rural parts of the country.

Health Days are events during which women throughout Bosnia, especially those living in remote locations, are provided with free mammography examinations. The association “Think Pink – Together we are one” works to raise public awareness about breast cancer with an emphasis on prevention and early detection of this disease, breaking prejudices and stigmatization associated with breast cancer, and generally promoting healthy lifestyles and promotion and preservation population health.

Every year, some 1,300 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Bosnia. Despite the lack of a centralized database, at least 500 women lose the fight against the disease in the country every year, the Association said.
