Health centres across Bosnia ade under immense pressure due to Covid-19 and our estimates say we will have 1,800 positive cases by Friday, Health Minister in Bosnia's Republika Srpska (RS) entity Alen Seranic said during Thursday's emergency press conference amid the explosion of coronavirus infection in the country.

“If this trend continues, We'll have seven to eight percent of the population hospitalized. Our estimates show that there will be 1,800 positive cases tomorrow, which would mean some 150 new people in hospitals next week, given considering the worsening epidemiological situation (in the country). Our projections say we will then have 13 people on ventilators. If this trend continues, we will have to activate all plans and end things territorially,” Seranic said.

Bosnia consists of two semi-autonomous entities and a District, the Serb-dominated RS and the Bosniak-Croat shared Federation (FBIH). District Brcko is not dominated by either of the three constituent peoples. Bosth entities and the District have their own governments, laws and constitutions which must be aligned with the State Constitution. Each entity aligns its strategy with the framework strategy decided by the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Minister also stated that in his Ministry had updated the recommendations and forwarded them to all health centres, advising them what to do regarding the examination, how to refer patients.

“The thing I must mention is that all European Union countries are recording infamous numbers of infected patients and the only measures are those towards the community and the individual and they are being taken at this time. In addition to caring for Covid-19 patients, we must be aware that we must provide health care to other patients, suffering from other illnesses. It will be difficult to do if this trend continues,” Seranic noted.

He pointed out that the coronavirus affects all aspects of one's life, and that this Ministry planned, designed and adopt certain measures, and based on those goals, they hope to deal with the new situation as successfully as possible.
