The helicopters of the BiH Armed Forces stand ready to help local authorities respond to wildfires across the country and all that is needed is a political decision by the tripartite Presidency, Bosnia’s Defence Minister, Sifet Podzic, said on Monday.
“The Armed Forces have helicopters ready for firefighting, which is a regular mission of the Armed Forces,” he said, adding that the military has “experienced crews who have been involved in extinguishing fires in these areas” for many years.
The only reason why the helicopters were not engaged is the failure of the Presidency to make such a decision.
In order to engage BiH Armed Forces resources, all three Presidency members must agree on it. However, the Serb member of the tripartite Presidency, Milorad Dodik, refuses to let it happen.
