The same US and European Union officials who advocated the territory swap between Kosovo and Serbia are now engaged in talks on the electoral reform in Bosnia and Herzegovina, senior associate of the Berlin-based Democratization Policy Council Bodo Weber told N1. He warned that one of those foreign officials is conducting a "dangerous" policy.

US envoy for electoral reform in BiH Matthew Palmer and European External Action Service Managing Director Angelina Eichhorst arrived in Sarajevo where they met Bosnian political leaders and officials to mediate the talks on electoral reform, which has been a stumbling block on the country's political stage for years now.

“My colleagues and I warn that Matthew Palmer's policy, for which we hoped would be different and more progressive, is dangerous one indeed. He in a way resumes the policy of the old (US) administration. Palmer and Eichhorst were collaborators in the attempt of dangerous idea of territory swap between Kosovo and Serbia, and now we see the same people in Sarajevo,” stressed Weber.

“The goal of that policy is indulging the ethno-nationalist policies,” he added.

Asked why is Palmer dealing with the Election Law in Bosnia and Herzegovina amidst political crisis and demands for secession of Republika Srpska, Bosnia's Serb-majority region, the political expert replied that the electoral reform has been top subject for years.

According to him, the Biden administration removed Palmer from the post of special envoy for the Balkans but appointed him to a “non-existent” role for electoral reform.

“Seems like the Biden administration allows Palmer's policy which is not in tradition of the Joe Biden's policy or the Democrats towards the Balkans,” said Weber.
