The exhumation of the body of former head of Serbia’s Islamic Community, Muamer Zukorlic, has been completed so the cause of his death can be investigated based on a request from his family members.
This was confirmed by Usame Zukorlic, the son of the late religious leader who was also the leader of the Party of Justice and Reconciliation (SPP). He said in a Facebook post that he was grateful to the Serbian judiciary for respecting the family's demands to form an international expert team to oversee the entire process.
He also noted that the Head of the Institute of Forensic Medicine from Sarajevo, Professor Nermin Sarajlic, and a professor from Hamburg are involved in the process.
Bosnia’s state Prosecution also previously asked to join the investigation into Muamer Zukorlic’s death.
Last month, Usame Zukorlic filed a criminal complaint against an unknown perpetrator with the Republic Public Prosecutor's Office of Serbia and submitted laboratory findings that he believes indicate that his father Muamer Zukorlic did not die a natural death.
He previously said at the press conference that the family suspects his father was poisoned.
