The Bolette cruise ship carrying over a thousand passengers which kicked off the journey from the Bahamas has sailed into the Bosnian coastal town of Neum on Thursday morning.

The 237-metre long ship is the largest ship that ever sailed into the Neum area but also the first to pass under the Peljesac bridge, the recently built bridge that connects Croatia's mainland with its southernmost region.

The ship that arrived at around 7 am will stay harboured in the Neum bay for the next 14 hours.

Despite the promotion that the cruise ship has brought along to the city, its authorities and residents protested against the entry into the Bosnian seaside.

Mayor Dragan jurkovic told N1 it would be investigated who gave the permission for the entry given that, according to him, the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina decided against sailing of cruise ships into the Neum aquatorium.

A group of locals also staged a peaceful protest, carrying a banner that says: ‘Neum – a pearl of BiH’.
