The refusal of the Democratic Action Party (SDA) leader Bakir Izetbegovic to reach a solution to the Election Law in the last Sarajevo round of negotiations is the latest act of BiH’s destruction and unilateral proclamation of a one-nation Bosniak Republic, Croat veteran’s Association (HVIDRA) Mostar said in a statement on Monday.

The Mostar Branch of the Association of Disabled Croat Veterans of the Homeland War says, among other things, that it is necessary to return to the settings before the Washington Agreement and declare the “Croat Republic of Herceg-Bosina” with executive, legislative and judicial powers.

The statement even talks about the territory in which such a “republic” would function.

“The republic would cover the area defended by the Croat Defence Council (HVO) during the Homeland War, and within the internationally recognized borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the HVIDR said, adding that “not even the minimum conditions for general elections in Bih exist at the moment.”

The HVIDR statement also states that the American and European administrations in BiH should clearly and unequivocally condemn and sanction Bakir Izetbegović's policy, and not just focus on Milorad Dodik's separatist policy.

Herzeg-Bosnia was established in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1991 during the war in the country. Its armed forces, the Croatian Defence Council (HVO), were first allied with Bosniak armed forces. But the HVO and Bosnia's Army turned against each other after the parastate declared itself a republic on August 28, 1993, and changed its name into the Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosna, with Mostar being its capital.

The parastate had the ambition to become part of neighbouring Croatia.

The Croat-Bosniak conflict ended in 1994 with an agreement brokered in Washington, D.C. which prescribed the creation of a Bosniak-Croat Federation entity (FBiH) out of territories controlled by Bosniaks and Bosnian Croats. Herzeg-Bosna was abolished two years later.

Jadranko Prlic, Bruno Stojic, Slobodan Praljak, Milivoj Petkovic, Valentin Coric and Berislav Pusic, former political and military leaders of the so-called “Herzeg-Bosina” – were found guilty by the International Criminal Tribunal in the Hague of a joint criminal enterprise for expelling and killing Bosniaks with the aim of permanently ethnically cleansing those parts of the country.
