Bosnia’s Catholic Church will be collecting donations on Sunday for helping locals in Croatia after a magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit the country on Tuesday, killing at least seven people, injuring many others and causing severe material damage, the Episcopal Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina said.

The epicentre of the earthquake was the central Croatian town of Petrinja and it caused devastation across Sisak, Glina, Zagreb and other settlements in the area.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vrhbosna called upon parish priests across the country to collect the donations at Sunday Mass. The donations will be handed over to the Episcopal Conference of Croatia.

“These days, do everything that is necessary to inform your parish communities so that all those who would like to, but cannot participate in the mass due to the still unfavourable epidemiological situation, send their contributions,” said a letter to the pastors signed by Archbishop Vinko Puljic.
