The Sarajevo Canton government said Thursday they are conducting direct talks with the Russian Fund and AstraZeneca regarding the purchase of coronavirus vaccines. At the same time, Bosnia’s Foreign Minister published the exact dates when the COAVX facility should deliver the vaccines BiH paid for earlier.

“Given the extremely serious situation regarding the spread of coronavirus in the Sarajevo Canton, the government calls on all potential suppliers registered in BiH, who can ensure the import of vaccines to Sarajevo, to submit bids with clearly stated prices and delivery times. All those who are interested can get a letter of intent from the Government of Sarajevo Canton,” the Government said.

Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Edin Forto said they have established direct contact with the Russian Direct Investment Fund and AstraZeneca representatives in order to acquire the necessary vaccines.

He added that the government has been working on finding ways to acquire at least 100,000 doses for the residents of Sarajevo Canton from day one.

Bosnian Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic wrote on her Facebook account Thursday evening that she has had a fantastic meeting in Brussels where she spoke with Deputy Director-General and Acting Director-General for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Maciej Popowski, adding that she was just informed of the dates when the COVAX facility would deliver the vaccines for BiH:

March 23 – 24.300 Pfizer doses,
March 29 – 26,000 AstraZeneca doses,
April 22 – 76,000 AstraZeneca doses.
