Bosnian consul general in Munich Vera Sajic told Srna news agency that so far no citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been reported among the victims of the flooding that hit parts of Germany over the past days.

“I am constantly communicating with my colleagues in consulate offices in Frankfurt, which covers two flooded regions, and in Stuttgart, with the ambassador in Berlin. Fortunately, no citizen of BiH has been injured and I hope it will remain like that,” said Sajic.

She said she was also maintaining contact with consuls of Serbia and Croatia, Bosnia’s two neighbouring countries.

“The number of those affected has been changing hourly, there are currently 135 reported dead in Germany, 27 in Belgium. Unfortunately, two firefighters in Germany died, and it was officially confirmed,” added Sajic.

The damage caused by floods is currently estimated at 1.2 billion euro, she said, adding that experts claim this amount will increase to several billion euros.

According to Sajic, the main focus now is on finding accommodation for those who had to leave their homes.

“These are some disturbing, apocalyptic images from Germany, a very difficult situation. The situation with corona was unfortunately replaced with this one with severe flooding,” she said.
