Slovenia has confirmed 1,860 new cases of COVID-19 and 24 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the country's health ministry reported on Tuesday while Prime Minister Janez Jansa is set to present the country's vaccination plan for the first six months of the year later in the day.

After 5,512 PCR tests and 8,455 antigen tests were conducted, a total of 1,387 and 473 new cases respectively were detected, which amounts to a rate of 25.2% and 5.6% of positive cases respectively.

There are currently 24,190 active cases in the country and the average daily number of positive cases over the past week has been 1,865, which indicates a declining trend.

There are 1,205 patients in hospital treatment, of whom 198 are in intensive care.

Although the numbers are falling, they are still high and Jansa has said that all restrictions will remain in force until the end of the week. A decision on whether face to face classes will start next week, but only for pupils from Grades 1 to 3, will be made by the government on Wednesday or Thursday.

Vaccination plan to be presented later in the day

Later today Jansa will present the country’s vaccination plan for the first six months of the year. Jansa took the helm of the health ministry together with the head of the public health institute, Milan Krek, after Minister Tomaz Gantar resigned in December.

Slovenia expects its first batch of 1,200 doses the Moderna vaccine during the day.
