The Ferhat Pasha Mosque in Banja Luka marked the Mosque Day Saturday, which the Islamic Community (IZ) in Bosnia and Herzegovina commemorates in memory of the day when this, one of the most important mosques in BiH, was destroyed in 1993.

Within the forum “Remembrance of the demolition of Ferhadija and other mosques in Banja Luka,” the imams of the Majlis from Banja Luka performed a special program, and the Mufti of Banja Luka, Nusret Abdibegovic, also addressed the audience.

Muamer Okanovic, the main imam of the Majlis from Banja Luka, said that May 7 is a very important date, both for Banja Luka and Bosnia and Herzegovina, both for Muslims and for all citizens who strive for civilization values.

According to him, all 16 mosques were demolished in the Banja Luka Majlis during the war.

He pointed out that a large number of Banja Luka citizens grew up in the atmosphere and under the auspices of this mosque, so their visits to the mosque, both as tourists and faithful, express the sentiment of belonging to Ferhat Pasha's mosque. He emphasized that the significance of this mosque is huge, which is shown by numerous visits, especially in the summer.

By the decision of the Riyaset of the Islamic Community in BiH, May 7 was declared the Day of Mosques, when the demolition of Ferhadija in Banja Luka, as well as other 613 mosques, 218 masjids, 69 mektebs, four tekkes, 37 turbets and 405 other buildings owned by the IZ is symbolically marked.
