BiH Presidency member and leader of the ruling party in Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik, condemned the decision by the High Representative in the country, Christian Schmidt, who used his special powers to secure funds for the October 2022 general elections.

Schmidt, who is the international community's official overseeing the civilian implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement in BiH, used the Bonn powers on Tuesday for the second time after he took office in August 2021.
Dodik once again rejected Schmidt’s authority, arguing that he was not appointed according to procedure and should not have the power to make take such steps.

"In a situation where the Council of Ministers has solved a significant part of that problem, it is obvious that their intention is for them to impose themselves as a decision-making factor in BiH and thus trample on all democratic institutions, and thus BiH," Dodik said, arguing that such a move shows that “BiH does not exist as a sovereign state”.
