The Serb member of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency, Milorad Dodik, reported himself to the BiH Prosecutor’s Office arguing that he did it so the “Muslims” would not have to after he repeatedly stated that he will not accept the ban on genocide denial the international administrator in the country imposed.

Dodik confirmed this to the SRNA news agency, saying that he did it in order to “relieve Muslims who could be exposed to pressure and demands from their political leaders, who have feelings of hatred and hateful attitudes towards Serbs, to file criminal charges” against him.

“In order to avoid overheated emotions and low passions from Sarajevo's stuffy political kitchen in which hatred towards Serbs is produced on a daily basis, I decided to report myself,” he said.

The outgoing High Representative in BiH who is tasked with overseeing the civilian implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement, Valentin Inzko, used his special powers on Friday to impose amendments to the BiH’s Criminal Code which sanction the glorification of war criminals convicted by final and binding judgments, as well as the denial of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

Dodik, who is also the leader of the ruling party in Bosnia’s Serb-majority Republika Srpska (RS) entity, said the move represents the “last nail in the coffin” of BiH and that the decision would not be accepted in the RS.

Party leaders in the entity meanwhile discussed a “joint response” to Inzko's law and decided that officials from the RS will not participate in the work of BiH institutions until the matter is resolved.

Dodik even announced that RS police would prevent any attempts to implement Inzko’s decision in the RS and will not allow members of the state police force, SIPA, to apprehend those accused based on the new law.
