BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik accused US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gabriel Escobar of interfering in the internal matters in Bosnia and that, as opposed to countries like Turkey, BiH does not have the power to resist such activities.

Dodik spoke to the media after he and his two colleagues in the Presidency met with the United States envoy for electoral reform in BiH, Matthew Palmer, and European External Action Service (EEAS) Director Angelina Eichhorst.
He commented on Escobar’s statements during the discussion on US engagement in the Western Balkans held before the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

“It is good that BiH's membership in NATO was not mentioned, it is good that the Americans say that there will be no Dayton 2 (new Dayton Peace Agreement),” Dodik said, adding that the leadership in Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, where he is the leader of the ruling party, is pushing for “returning BiH to the constitutional order and respect for the Constitution” and that attempts to “destroy it” are “criminal.”

“Escobar interferes in the internal affairs of BiH and I think it has become disgusting how they are interfering,” he said.

This attitude towards Bosnia is something the country is not able to face up against, he argued.

“BiH does not have the strength to oppose thi interference, as Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president, did when he said he would expel 10 ambassadors, and when they apologized for their behaviour, it was decided that they could stay,” he said, adding that “that's how real countries deal with it.”
