Bosnian basketball player Emir Sulejmanovic and his father Nedzad took the road of death to Potocari in the Peace March 2022, marking the Srebrenica genocide of 1995.

In an interview with N1, he pointed out that every time he comes to Bosnia, he must visit his birthplace.

“I'm glad to be at the Peace March this year. It's a very educational experience for me because I love listening to history lessons. I think that everyone, who has the opportunity, should set aside time and teach the new generations so that Srebrenica is never forgotten. And that we always remember Srebrenica, not only on July 11, but also for the remaining ten months.”

Emir Sulejmanovic was born on July 13, 1995 near the town of Luka near Srebrenica. After running away from his birthplace, he lost his mother at the age of five, who died in Finland.

“I am very grateful to all the people who helped my mother give birth in the best possible conditions during those moments. I was born in the forest near a big stone. After that, we went to Zepa, then to Kladanj and later we went to Finland where my father was waiting for us. I am grateful to my father (Nedžad Sulejmanović) for being both father and mother to me and my brother all this time”, said Sulejmanović earlier for N1 in the documentary film called “Ozivjeli” (Revived).

Father Nedzad Sulejmanovic gives Emir the strength and energy through his personal and professional career, and in the following days the two will walk 110 kilometres for the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica.

“My father has been with me my life whole. He went through the most difficult moments with me. It’s also very important and significant for me that we are going to Potocari together. In this way, I will get to know many more human destinies, which we must understand and build a better future with the memory of the genocide in Srebrenica,” Sulejmanovic concluded.
