Joseph Borrell, The European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and the Western Balkans leaders discussed the situation in the region, its relations with the bloc and the preparation for their summit next month.

The EU External Affairs Service (EEAS) said on Wednesday Borrell “hosted an informal dinner with Western Balkans leaders on Tuesday in New York, in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)” during which they had an open exchange on the situation in the region, its relations with the bloc ahead of the upcoming Summit next month.

The EEAS statement added Borrell “underlined the need for strong commitment from both the Western Balkans partners and the European Union and its member states to overcome current dynamics and move the process forward.”

Borrell’s guests at the dinner included Montenegro’s President Milo Djukanovic, North Macedonia’s Stevo Pendarovski, the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zeljko Komsic, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Serbia’s Foreign Minister Serbia Nikola Selakovic.
