Fans of the late former President of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, gathered at a monument erected for him in Sarajevo to mark the 41st anniversary of his death.

The leader of Bosnia’s Social Democratic Party (SDP), Nermin Niksic, was among those who gathered at Tito’s monument on Tuesday. He said that there will never be another Yugoslavia, at least not within its former borders.

“I am sure that there are many more people who have good memories of that country,” he said, adding that “it would be great if we could succeed in securing rights in this country of ours now.”

A 17-year-old, born long after Tito’s death, also came to honour the late Yugoslav leader.

“He helped us for years while he was alive. I was not born back then. This man means a lot to me as he helped my family and everyone else,” he said.

An older man, born in 1936, said he remembers life under Tito well.

“With him, I had everything, and now I have lost everything,” he said.

“We will remember him in a good light. We were all satisfied, we would get worker’s apartments. He is one of a kind,” said another Sarajevo citizen.
