Former Bosnian Security Minister Sadik Ahmetovic received a first instance sentence, on Monday, to six months in prison for abuse of office or authority.

Ahmetovic was charged with a corrupt criminal offence, ie for abusing his position or authority and signing an employment contract, thus enabling an employee to acquire illegal property gain. He thus caused damage to the BiH budget. This was done in the period from the end of 2011 to September 2012, when he was the Minister of Security.

According to the indictment, he did that in order to obtain illegal property gain for Adnan Bektic.

Former Security Minister Ahmetovic signed four work contracts with him, in order to create the illusion that he performs tasks and duties related to the preparation of documentation, data collection, preparation of strategic plans and information on the security situation in certain areas, including crime, terrorism, public order and peace, as well as other tasks within the scope of the Ministry.

According to the indictment, Ahmetovic enabled Bektic to acquire illegal property gain under a work contract in the amount of 12,280 Bosnian marks (some €6,000) and pay per diems as a driver in the amount of 3,400 Bosnian marks (some €1,600), thus damaging the BiH budget by a total amount of 15,680 Bosnian marks (approx. €7,500).

Bektic is deprived of property in the amount of 7,414 Bosnian marks, which he is obliged to pay within 30 days, Balkan Investigative News Network wrote.
