Denis Becirovic, who was elected to Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency in October, strongly condemned the actions of the director of BiH’s Communications Regulatory Agency (RAK), Drasko Milinovic, saying he acted on an order of Bosnian Serb political leader, Milorad Dodik, when he announced “rigorous measures” against FACE TV and journalist Senad Hadzifejzovic.

Milinovic announced the measures claiming that Hadzifejzovic asked during a conversation with a guest on his talk show whether Dodik, who was elected President of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, should “be removed, calmed down or be killed.” However, Hadzifejzovic denied these accusations, saying he never used the word “killed” and that it was misinterpreted on purpose.

Hadzifejzovic later released a recording of his statement which appears to support his denial of the allegations.

“I condemn this extremely worrying move by the director of RAK against Face TV and journalist Senad Hadzifejzovic, not only because of the fact that it is based on the journalist's misinterpreted statement. Apart from the fact that the journalist, when asking a question on the show, did not state what Milinovic heard, because there is a huge difference between the words “kill” and “pacify”, the director of the RAK demonstrated with this move that he is only acting according to the political dictates of Milorad Dodik,” Becirovic said.

Becirovic noted that the appointment of the RAK director was “controversial from the beginning” because Milinovic, who used to be the director of the RS public broadcaster, RTRS, was always “obedient” to Dodik.

“I would like to point out that RAK, which is now managed by Milinovic, previously imposed as many as 19 executive measures, or sanctions, against RTRS and Milinovic himself for bias towards one policy, for censorship, or violation of the postulate of professional reporting. Milinovic now at the helm of the RAK behaves similarly to when he was the director of RTRS. This is unacceptable and shows all the perniciousness of appointing such a person to the leading position of a state agency,” Becirovic stressed.

He added that Milinovic's “dangerous announcements should be taken seriously” because their implementation would mean “the introduction of media darkness, that is, the suppression of critical thought and media freedom in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
