Graffiti glorifying the Srebrenica genocide were written in Nevesinje during the night from July 31 to August 1. The graffiti was written at an old bus stop in the village of Hrustima next to a "4S" symbol.

An unknown perpetrator or several of them wrote this monstrous message “Knife, Wire, Srebrenica” (“Noz, Zica, Srebrenica”) on the previously drawn Bosnian flag. The Bosniak returnees were shocked because vandalism of this kind did not happen in the area of Nevesinje for a long time.

“We understand this message, in the light of current political events, as an extremely serious threat. We certainly are afraid. The messages are anti-civilization and extremely ugly,” Dzemal Sendro, one of the residents of the village of Hrustima told Fena news agency.

According to him, the locals informed the Nevesinje police of this graffiti, and the on-duty team performed an investigation and made a report. Sendro expresses hope that the perpetrators of this shameful act will be discovered and identified as soon as possible, and their names and motives will be made public.

The locals, he added, expect the local authorities to condemn this vandalism, causing national intolerance.

Former international community's overseer of the implementation of the civilian aspect of the Dayton Peace Agreement, which ended the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia, Valentin Inzko imposed amendments to the BiH Criminal Code which came into force last Wednesday, banning the denial of genocide, war crimes their glorification as well as the glorification of war criminals. The provisions of the Criminal Code state that the punishment for such an act can range from six months to five years.
