MEP Tineke Strik confirmed on Friday afternoon that High Representative Christian Schmidt will explain the reasons for making changes to the Electoral Law of BiH as well as changes to the constitution of the Federation (FBiH) entity.

“Just confirmed: upon our request, High Representative Christian Schmidt will appear before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament to clarify the reasons for his undemocratic measure,” Strik wrote on her Twitter account.

Together with Bundestag member Boris Mijatovic, Strik sent an open letter to Schmidt demanding the withdrawal of the High Representative's recent decision, which they called undemocratic and detrimental to the rights of BiH citizens to free elections.

In the letter, they also asked him to clarify the claims of the official Zagreb that they participated in the negotiations with the Office of the High Representative on the adoption of the mentioned measures.

When asked by journalists about these allegations, Christian Schmidt persistently refused to make a statement, stating that he has the right to meet with anyone and to discuss all topics, and that these meetings have no impact on his decisions.

In the meantime, 26 other members of the European, German, Dutch and French parliaments joined the letter, seeking answers from the High Representative in BiH.
