The Israeli Foreign Ministry on Sunday praised the decision of authorities in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina to rename streets that were named after Ustasha officials.

"We congratulate the city of Mostar for their historic decision to rename streets named after very controversial individuals. This change will undoubtedly further strengthen the relations between our peoples," the ministry said on Twitter.
Israeli Ambassador Noah Gal Gendler congratulated and commended Croatian National Assembly president Dragan Covic, Mostar Mayor Mario Kordić, and Jewish Community Mostar president Amir Gross Kabiri.

Without a doubt, this represents a very brave move which will certainly help Mostar move on in the right direction, Gendler said, adding that he is confident this decision is a move for which the people of Mostar are even more proud to live in this city.

The City Council's decision to rename six streets named after Ustasha officials was also welcomed by US Ambassador to BiH Michael Murphy, High Representative Christian Schmidt, and European special envoy Johann Sattler. They called on Banja Luka and Sarajevo to follow Mostar's example.
