Bosnia is not lagging behind when it comes to action on climate change in the region and in order to meet its commitments regarding the issue, the country needs about 17 billion Bosnian Marks, BiH Presidency Chairman Zeljko Komsic told N1 in Glasgow, where he is participating in 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).

Komsic is expected to speak at the conference on Tuesday.

“We are first (in the region) regarding some things when it comes to preparing plans. Of course, to get out of these situations you need money,” he told N1’s Ika Ferrer Gotic, referring to efforts to curb the country’s greenhouse gas emissions.

“By 2030, in order to comply with what we have said, and that is the reduction of harmful greenhouse gases, we need approximately 17 billion marks,” he said, adding that Bosnia’s society should “begin to adapt to what is to come in the coming years.”

Komsic and his colleague in the tripartite BiH Presidency, Milorad Dodik, often do not see eye to eye with the latter accusing the former of misrepresenting the position of the state, particularly Bosnia’s semi-autonomous Republika Srpska (RS) entity.

When asked whether he expects this to happen again, Komsic said that “there is nothing controversial” in the conclusions he will present on Tuesday as none of them touches upon the interests of Republika Srpska which Dodik promoted.

“This is a completely normal thing where there are no political problems that burden us in BiH,” said Komsic.
