Memorial for victims of Kazani Pit Killings unveiled

The High Representative of the international community in Bosnia, Christian Schmidt, laid wreaths at a memorial to the victims of the Kazani Pit Killings which was unveiled on Monday at the site where civilians, mostly ethnic Serbs, were killed by members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1993.

Schmidt, who is the international official tasked with overseeing the civilian implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement, paid his respects to the victims along with the Vice-President of Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity, Milan Dunovic.

“We will forever, with sadness and respect, remember our fellow citizens who were killed,” says the text engraved on the memorial with the names of 17 victims.

The Kazani memorial was erected by the City of Sarajevo on the initiative of Mayor, Benjamina Karic.

The victims of the Kazani Pit Killings, as well as all the victims of the siege of the City of Sarajevo, deserve respect and dignity,” said the Sarajevo City Administration.
