Croatian President Zoran Milanovic said on Thursday the leaders of the constituent peoples in Bosnia should meet with him and presidents Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia and Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, but that Bosniak leader, Bakir Iztebegovic, had some reservations about this idea.

Milanovic met with the Presidency's Serb member Milorad Dodik yesterday amidst a political crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the U.S. administration's efforts to effect changes to the country's electoral law.

Speaking to the press in Delnice, Milanovic said he and Dodik talked about “the representatives of the constituent peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina” – Dodik, Izetbegovic and Dragan Covic – “sitting at the table with some kind of support by me, Aleksandar Vucic and President Erdogan.

Milanovic said he “thought about contacting” Erdogan and that he was confident Erdogan would accept.

However, he added, Izetbegovic has “some reservations” at the moment. “I'm neither attacking him nor calling him out. He has to explain why.”

Such a format could deliver results, Milanovic said, while negotiating via “various mediators, ambassadors, leads nowhere. That has buried Bosnia and Herzegovina neck-deep in the sand.”

Calling Dodik “the representative of the Serb people” in BiH, Milanovic said, “I know it may sound anachronistic to someone, that it seems basic and primitive to someone. Some things are possible in Croatia, not in BiH. (The) Dayton (agreement) entered into force to ensure peace. Dayton is the line that must not be crossed.”
