The mural dedicated to Michael Schumacher in Sarajevo is nearly complete, and although the plan was initially for it to be completed on Monday to mark the birthday of the former Formula 1 champion, the artists working on it said this may not happen as they want it to be “perfect.”

Members of the association ‘Obojena Klapa’ are painting the mural, which is their joint project with the Goethe Institute, on a building in the neighbourhood where Schumacher visited the children of Sarajevo after the end of the war, took photos with them and gifted them toys.

The seven-time world champion, who has been in a coma since 2013 after suffering a severe head injury, has visited Sarajevo twice as a UNESCO special ambassador on a fundraising project for the treatment of children victims of shelling and landmines.

One of the artists, Benjamin Cengic, explained the delay in completing the mural to N1.

“We decided that the mural should rather be perfect, not timely. So, if necessary, we will take even more time to make it as good as possible,” he said.
