Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina are marking on Monday one of the most important religious feasts, Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the month of fasting - the holy month of Ramadan.

The three-day holiday starts with a morning prayer and sermon, and resumes with family gatherings, visits to friends and neighbours as well as the visits to graves of the closest ones.

Speaking at the morning sermon during the central Eid event at Gazi Husrev-bey's mosque in Sarajevo, head of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein Kavazovic said that the hearts of the faithful are filled with true joy on this day.

“We have just seen off the month of Ramadan, the best month in a year, where time is more worth than in other months, which has a night that is more worth than thousand months. Everything we did throughout this month has more meaning than usual,” said Kavazovic.

He called on the believers to share the joy of this day with their families, friends and neighbours.

“We are the people that went through a difficult historic experience, but we are also a strong people that decided to struggle and build a better future,” stressed Kavazovic.

He called on everyone to get engaged in developing their communities, culture and the country in general.

“Let's all work on our own recovery first, then work with others. Don't waste your time in meaningless and useless discussions, empty talk on social networks, especially not in forbidden matters,” said Kavazovic.
