I'm very emotional. There are no losers, the winner is the City of Mostar. A lot can be said in the heat of the battle but from today we work as one, the newly elected Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordic said in his first address.

After taking the oath, Kordic addressed the councillors. He said that they can expect him to be the “engine of the city” and that he would expect the councillors to warn him with their proposals and suggestions if he “goes astray.”

“The function of the Mayor is to be the first among equals. This is a great responsibility, and even greater honour,” Kordic said.

He noted that he would invest all his knowledge and energy to making Mostar into a source of pride for its residents so that “together we can live and raise our children in peace.”

“I hope that from tomorrow we will move in a positive direction in order to reach other planes that are ahead of us,” the new Mayor of Mostar concluded, asking the councillors to help him achieve this goal.

Mario Kordic from the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH) was elected in the third round of voting, receiving a simple majority of 17 votes, which guaranteed him the position of the first man of the city on the Neretva River. His opponent from the Coalition for Mostar, Zlatko Guzin, got 16 votes and two votes were invalid.
