Three opposition leaders in Bosnia’s Serb-majority Republika Srpska (RS) entity said on Thursday that they agree with the decision by the election authority to annul the local election results in Doboj and accused the ruling party in the RS of “electoral engineering” in the northern town, but said they disagree with the annulment of the results in the eastern town of Srebrenica.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided to annul the election results for 26 out of 28 polling stations in Srebrenica as well as 89 out of a total of 108 polling stations in Doboj due to irregularities in the voting process.

Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency Chairman and leader of the ruling party in the RS semi-autonomous entity, Milorad Dodik, said the decision was illegal, planned by Bosniaks, and that his Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) will appeal it.

He accused two Bosnian Serb opposition leaders who called for the annulment of the Doboj vote, Serb Democratic Party (SDS) leader Mirko Sarovic and Party of Democratic Progress (PDP) leader Branislav Borenovic, of reaching an agreement with “Muslims in Sarajevo” on the matter.

Borenovic, Sarovic and the leader of the Democratic People's Alliance (DNS), Nenad Nesic, met on Thursday to discuss the CEC decision.

“We demand that the top of criminal electoral engineering in Doboj is determined and that they are held accountable for that. It seems that Milorad Dodik is at that top,” Borenovic said.

He said he “does not like” the decision to annul the election results in Srebrenica.

Sarovic agreed with Borenovic and announced he would appeal it.

“Don’t make a parallel between Srebrenica and Doboj,” he said.

According to Nesic, his DNS is not fully satisfied with the CEC decision, arguing that elections should be repeated instead of them being annulled at certain polling stations.

“The entire leadership of the DNS will be part of the campaign in Doboj to protect the will of the citizens,” Nesic said.
