Croatia’s Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic, praised the success of Croatian diplomacy regarding efforts to bring the High Representative of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina to introduce changes to the Election Law which he argued improved the rights of Croats in BiH.

“They advocated for the rights of Croats in BiH, constantly, continuously,” he said, arguing that this effort took years.

“And we succeeded. We did not push it through all the way, but we've made it. We imposed it as a topic, included the constituent peoples in the strategic compass, raised the topic at the European Council, engaged European and American diplomacy, and engaged the highest level of the European Council, the president, to deal with the issue of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Plenkovic said.

He said that, when all of that failed, Croatia turned to the High Representative, “the only one who could and did help.”

“None of this is by accident. We must support BiH in its efforts to secure EU candidate status, if that is possible already at the meeting of the European Council in December,” Planekovic said.

The Croatian Government previously posted on Twitter that it was discussing ways to amend the Election Law in BiH with the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt.
