Police find 17 migrants suspected of various crimes during raid of Blazuj centre

Police found 17 migrants suspected of committing crimes in Bosnia and regional countries during a raid of the migrant centre in Blazuj, near the capital on Saturday, and forwarded them to the Service for Foreigner’s Affairs which is expected to deport them.

The raid, ordered by the Sarajevo Municipal Court and monitored by the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor’s Office, included 340 police officers and 13 officials from the Service for Foreigner’s Affairs, who found about 3,000 migrants at the centre.

Apart from the 17 suspects, police also found “discarded items suitable for inflicting bodily harm (wooden bars, metal bars, screwdrivers, scissors, scalpels, kitchen knives, etc.), which are linked to the recent attack on police officers,” the Sarajevo Canton Interior Ministry said.

On Wednesday evening, a riot took place in the Blazuj migrant centre which left two police officers, one International Organisation for Migration (IOM) official and several migrants injured.
