The Chairman and Bosniak member of the tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sefik Dzaferovic, said that BiH does not recognize the "separatist referendums that took place in Ukraine".

Referendums on whether citizens in parts of the occupied Ukrainian regions of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Lugansk are in favour of joining Russia were held from September 22 to 27, and according to the latest results, between 96 and 98 percent of voters voted to join Russia. The referendums were strongly condemned by the international community, and numerous world leaders said they will not recognise the results.

Dzaferovic said that such referendums are illegal according to international law.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina will never recognize such referendums because they have no legal basis, they represent a gross attack on the UN Charter with the aim of violent annexation of the territory of a sovereign state. Apart from the illegality, the fact that these referendums are taking place under military occupation makes them undemocratic. In accordance with its official position on Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and we will remain part of the absolute majority of the international community, which, through the resolution of the UN General Assembly on aggression against Ukraine and other acts, confirmed this commitment,” he said.
