An exhibition "National Treasure of Bosnia and Herzegovina" was held Monday evening in the Sarajevo City Hall, under the auspices of the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sefik Dzaferovic, and Presidency member Zeljko Komsic.

The exhibition was organized by the Alija Izetbegovic Foundation and the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The exhibition “National Treasure of Bosnia and Herzegovina” consists of written cultural heritage from the special collections of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It shows an invaluable manuscript collection transcribed for centuries, the first books and newspapers printed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, travelogues and archival collections of Bosnian greats. The exhibition is part of the official program marking the 30th anniversary of Bosnia’s independence.

Apart from Presidency members Dzaferovic and Komsic, the opening ceremony was attended by guests from North Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia, as well as numerous personalities from the political, academic, cultural and public life of BiH.

“The exhibition was organized on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is a kaleidoscope of our rich cultural past stored in the special collections of the National and University Library of BiH. This is the first time that the National and University Library opened its special collections to the public to this extent,” said Dzaferovic.

He also pointed out that the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina is synonymous with a hard and persistent struggle for the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The wise achievements of a people who have overcome barbarism and ignorance cannot be destroyed by even the worst enemy. The restored City Hall and the written cultural heritage that has been saved and exhibited tonight testify that this is so and that is my message to future generations,” Dzaferovic emphasized.
