After dozens of films were eliminated from the list of the international feature films competing for this year's Academy Award, the candidate by Bosnian filmmaker Jasmila Zbanic ‘Quo Vadis, Aida?’ has been shortlisted alongside other 14 foreign films in the race for the Oscars.

“Fifteen films will advance to the next round of voting in the International Feature Film category for the 93rd Academy Awards. Films from 93 countries were eligible in the category,” said the official website of the prestigious film award.

“Academy members from all branches were invited to participate in the preliminary round of voting and must have met a minimum viewing requirement to be eligible to vote in the category,” it added.

The award ceremony is set to take place on April 25 2021. Official nominations for each category will be unveiled around mid-March.

‘Quo Vadis, Aida?’ premiered at the 77th Venice Film Festival, one of the oldest and most significant in the world’s film industry.

Zbanic told the story about the Srebrenica genocide through the fate of Aida, a former professor, who works as a translator for the UN forces, who are tasked with guarding the so-called security zone – Srebrenica.

This is the first feature film dealing with the Srebrenica genocide.
