If the newly appointed High Representative to BiH Christian Schmidt is coming with the Bonn powers, there is nothing for him to do in the Republika Srpska entity, said the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) leader, Mirko Sarovic, emphasizing the belief that this will not happen, because Schmidt comes from a serious country. He added that his party will support both laws that are on the agenda of the RS Assembly's special session one of them is the Law on non-acceptance of the decision of the High Representative in BiH, Valentin Inzko, to ban genocide denial.

“Our focus should not be on the content of the decision. We should not strike at those who should not suffer because of our political disagreements, especially not at the families of the dead. The content of the decision is unacceptable to us, but it should not be in our focus. Our focus should be that he (Valentin Inzko) did not have the right to impose such a decision,” the first man of the SDS noted.

He also spoke of the new High Representative, Christian Schmidt who will assume office on August 1, saying he is not welcome in the RS if he will use the Bonn Powers which give the High Representative the power to impose laws or sanction BiH politicians.

“If he's coming with the Bonn powers, he has nothing to do in the RS, his mission will fail, but I want to believe that he will not reach for such solutions. If he intervenes, I believe that it will be an escalation of unimaginable proportions,” said Sarovic, commenting on possible moves by the newly appointed High Representative.

The RS National Assembly is considering amendments to the Criminal Code of the RS prescribing up to 15 years of jail time for contempt of the RS, its flag, anthem or people, and the adoption of the Law on Non-Acceptance of the Decision of the High Representative in BiH Valentin Inzko, which refers to the ban on genocide denial and glorification of war criminals. The session is closed to the public.
