Security measures before enthronement in Cetinje: Fences and armoured police

A group of citizens removed the fences that were set up early this morning at Dvorski trg in Cetinje before the announced enthronement of the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) Joanikije in the Cetinje Monastery. The fences were placed up to half of the square, which has never been the case before, Beta news agency writes Saturday. The Police Directorate told Vijesti that their quick reaction established control over the square. Vijesti also wrote that a large police presence is noticeable in the city and that they also brought armoured vehicles with them.

The Cetinje monastery was completely fenced on Saturday and it was secured by strong police forces. The media report that the local utility police did not issue a permit for the installation of fences.

The people of Cetinje were indignant because of the fences that were set up in the city. Those gathered in the square also called Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic by derogatory names.

Some of the bars on Dvorski trg in Cetinje have stopped serving drinks, and as Vijesti Television finds out, every bar should be closed by 3 p.m.

Earlier on Saturday, a group of Montenegrin citizens removed the protective fence on Dvorski trg.

Vijesti Television reported that a large number of vehicles from several Montenegrin cities headed for Cetinje.

Serbian Patriarch arrives in Montenegro

Serbian Patriarch Porfirije arrived in Podgorica at around 1:30 pm for a two-day visit to Montenegro, which is his first arrival since he was elected Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Patriarch Porfirije was welcomed at the Podgorica airport by Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral and Bishop Methodius of Budva and Niksic with the clergy of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral and the Diocese of Budva and Niksic.

The solemn reception of Patriarch Porfirije will be held at 6 pm in the Cathedral of Christ's Resurrection, where a solemn doxology and evening service will be served.

As announced, after the address on the stage in front of the temple, a rich cultural and artistic program will follow, which will begin with the screening of documentaries: “the Procession” and “Metropolitan Joanikije”.

Demonstrators block all roads to Cetinje

After a group of citizens opposing the enthronement in Cetinje removed the protective fence on Dvorski trg during the morning, protesters broke through police blockades in several places, blocked all roads to Cetinje, and placed tires, stones and containers on the roads.

Citizens broke through a blockade set at the exit from the city towards the roundabout.

After breaking through two blockades, on the third, the police lowered their shields and let them go towards the roundabout.
