In the last 24 hours, there have been 2,245 new cases of the infection with coronavirus in Slovenia, or almost a thousand fewer than the day before, however hospitalisation numbers continued to rise, Slovenia's health authorities reported on Sunday.

Of 4,739 tests conducted, 47.4% have returned positive in the last 24 hours. There were 45,000 active cases on Sunday, and the 14-day incidence rate of new infections per 100,000

Infectologist Bojana Beović said today said that Slovenia “is probably on the plateau of the curve of the (fourth wave) of the epidemic… each citizen needs to exercise caution.”

Beović expressed fear that pseudo-scientific claims promoted by antivaxxers’ groups could produce an additional negative effect on vaccine hesitant people.

So far, 54% of the total population have fully been vaccinated, and 58% have received at least a shot.

Beović said that mandatory vaccination would cause additional divisions and oppositions in Slovenia, and added that it would be advisable if all the adults above 50 and people with underlying conditions are required to get vaccinated.

She called for reaching a broader social consensus on the matter.
