Slovenian President Borut Pahor travelled to Belgrade Saturday where he met with Serbia’s Aleksandar Vucic to meet before the Brdo-Brijuni meeting on September 12, where he hinted at the possibility of Bosnia gaining the EU candidate status next week.

Pahor said that he came to Belgrade on the eve of the Brdo-Brijuni meeting to consult with Vucic primarily about the European perspective of the Western Balkans and the peace, stability and development of the Western Balkans.

“I think there is a possibility that in the end, all the leaders will agree to open the door for Serbia to finish the accession negotiations faster and [for it] to become a member of the EU and that by the end of this week Bosnia and Herzegovina could receive candidate status and for the EU to finally fulfil its visa liberalization obligation,” said Pahor.

He stated that the Open Balkans is one of the few constructive initiatives that works on connecting the region, stressing that he supports it, because he knows that by the end of the year the Berlin process will be restarted, which has a lot in common with the Open Balkans.
