Srebrenica Memorial Centre presented on Friday its annual report on genocide denial, which identified 234 instances of genocide denial in the regional public and media discourse in a one-year period.

The report covered the period from May 1, 2020, until May 1, 2021, and it was created with the support of the UK government and Heinrich Boll Stiftung.

The total of 143 actors who denied genocide was identified in the report, of whom 132 were persons and 11 were groups or legal entities. Most of them were reported in Serbia (84), Bosnia and Herzegovina (38, of which 35 were in the Serb-majority entity Republika Srpska) and Montenegro (12). Nine more cases of Srebrenica genocide denial were recorded in other countries, said the report editor Lejla Gacanica.

Of 234 cases of genocide denial in this period, most occurred in Serbia (142), then BiH (60, of which 57 were reported in RS entity) and Montenegro (19), while the remaining 14 cases were reported in other countries.

The report creators found it particularly concerning that 28 of the cases involved an official in executive or legislative authority, mostly in Serbia or RS entity.

Among the individuals, Serb member of BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik was most often seen as the genocide denier, according to the report.
