After testing all the residents of the Miral migrant camp in Bosnia’s north-western Una-Sana Canton (USK), 135 turned out to positive, Operational group for migrant issues concluded during Wednesday’s meeting, adding that international and security organisations overseeing the camp made an unacceptable blunder letting 55 of them leave the camp.

– Unfortunately, that information is correct, but it is especially worrying because 55 infected migrants have left the camp and headed in an unknown direction. This is an unacceptable blunder of international and security organizations and agencies managing the centre. Therefore, we appeal to the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office to react to this issue and to investigate the responsibility for such threat to the health and epidemiological situations in our Canton,” the USK Prime Minister Mustafa Ruznic said.

He added that they asked for the help of competent state institutions in finding adequate space for the treatment of people with more severe symptoms, given the overcrowding of the city and municipal health centres and the Cantonal Hospital in Bihac.

“We simply need help in the treatment of migrants and refugees positive for Covid-19, because we no longer have any capacity. We hope for an adequate response so that we can provide appropriate assistance to people with possible severe symptoms,” Prime Minister Ruznic said.

The Group announced they would increase the control and supervision of migrants and centre residents with the aim of preventing more migrants from entering the canton due to the worsening epidemiological situation among the migrant population.
