Numerous officials, citizens and members of NGO’s in both of Bosnia’s semi-autonomous entities marked May 9, Victory Day, commemorating the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945.

In the southern city of Mostar in Bosnia's Federation (FBiH) entity, the Union of Antifascists and veterans of the People's Liberation War (UABNOR), the local branch of the Islamic Community in Bosnia, an association of former prison camp inmates and the ‘Zlatni Ljiljani’ association laid wreaths at the Partisan’s Cemetary and the Sehitluci cemetery.

This was followed by an honorary dive from Mostar’s landmark Old Bridge.

“We have to remember the past. We must both mark it and learn from it. It’s been 26 years since the war, and we’re still at war, only it doesn’t involve shooting anymore. Some people are still obsessed with war,” said UABNR head, Sead Djulic.

“I call on everyone to take and keep good and beautiful things from the past, to learn to help the weak and the different, the powerless, as we look to the future,” he said.

In Banja Luka, the administrative centre of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, numerous officials laid wreaths at the monument for the fallen soldiers of the People's Liberation War, including mayor Drasko Stanivukovic, RS President, Zeljka Cvijanovic, RS Assembly Speaker, Nedeljko Cubrilovic, the Chairman of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency, Milorad Dodik and others.
